Fans are concerned about Alicia Silverstone after witnessing her consume a poisonous plant on social media.

Fans were both alarmed and confused when the 47-year-old Clueless actress was spotted eating a poisonous fruit while visiting London.

“OK, I’ve discovered something that I can’t figure out what it is and I need your help,” she said.

“I just bit into it because it was on the street, and we were discussing whether it was a tomato or not.”

“So what the heck is this?”

She acknowledged that she probably shouldn’t have eaten the unfamiliar fruit and added: “I don’t think you’re supposed to eat this.”

“But it’s almost like a pepper. Does anyone know what this is? I don’t know what it is.”

In the caption, she added: “What the heck is this!? I’m in England and can’t figure it out.”

The video stunned a lot of people, and several of them brought up the risks associated with picking berries on the side of the road.

Silverstone clarified that the plant was clearly not a tomato plant once the camera panned to show its leaves.

The fruit, which remains nameless, resembles a tomato in appearance but has a pepper-like seed content instead.

Though she clarified that she didn’t think she was actually supposed to be eating the fruit, Silverstone then bit into it once again.

The fruit’s poisonous identification as a Jerusalem Cherry was made by TikTok quite quickly.

Medline Plus explains that poisoning happens when someone consumes parts of the plant, such as the fruit and leaves.

“The effects of Jerusalem cherry poisoning mostly affect the primarily gastrointestinal (often delayed 8 to 10 hours), and central nervous system,” the site explains.

“This type of poisoning can be very dangerous. Other symptoms may include:

  • Abdominal pain or stomach pain
  • Delirium (agitation and confusion)
  • Diarrhoea
  • Dilated pupils
  • Fever
  • Hallucinations
  • Headache
  • Loss of sensation
  • Lower than normal body temperature (hypothermia)
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Paralysis
  • Shock
  • Slow pulse
  • Slowed breathing
  • Vision changes
“The faster you get medical help, the better the chance for recovery.”

Naturally, fans are quite worried about Silverstone, especially since she hasn’t posted anything since the video.

One wrote: “Can someone tag me when we know she’s OK.”

While another said: “Is Alicia ok??? We need an update!”

And a third added: “Okay it is 7 am in England, can you give us an update PLEASE. just a quick ‘hey I’m okay!’”
